Our Story
You’re not crazy. You’re not alone. And you’re definitely not the only one whose symptoms don’t fit neatly into one diagnosis.
I’m Elizabeth (HealingAfterMold). My husband and I created The Overlap Hub in 2026 because we lived through years of scattered information, conflicting advice, and the exhausting search for answers while our family got sicker.
For a long time I was told the fatigue, brain fog, racing heart, joint pain, breathing issues, skin reactions, and multi-system symptoms were anxiety, allergies, postpartum, stress, or “just in my head.” Conventional medicine didn’t have clear answers. What finally connected the dots for us was toxic mold exposure in the apartment where we lived with our two young sons.
The apartment had hidden moisture and mold problems. Symptoms got worse the longer we stayed. Testing we did at the time (including mycotoxin and environmental testing) showed high levels of contamination. We made the difficult decision to leave most of our belongings behind because porous items hold mycotoxins, and bringing them into a new space would have kept us from healing. We relocated, started over with very little, and focused on getting our family out of the exposure.
Leaving the mold was the biggest turning point. From there we cleaned up our environment: better air filtration, reverse-osmosis drinking water, a filtered shower, fragrance-free and low-tox products, and careful choices about what came into the home. We also worked with guidance from practitioners on supporting detox pathways and overall recovery. Progress has been slow and non-linear — especially for me — but our whole family has improved significantly since getting out of the contaminated space. Sleep is better, inflammation is lower, and we are rebuilding a life that feels safer.
We still live with the overlapping conditions many in this community know well (mold/CIRS-related illness, MCAS, POTS, and hEDS-related issues). There is no single “cure,” and what has helped us is not a protocol for everyone. We share our experience because we wish we’d had clearer, more trustworthy information earlier.
That’s why The Overlap Hub exists. It’s the free resource we needed when we were drowning in forums, conflicting protocols, and the fear that no one else understood. Here you’ll find practical guides, checklists, trusted external links, testing and remediation information, and links to provider directories — all in one calm place. No pressure. No hype. Just the best information we can gather so you don’t have to start from zero.
Some product links on the site earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you; see our disclosure.
Important: The Overlap Hub is not a medical provider and nothing on this site is medical advice. Always work with licensed healthcare professionals for diagnosis and treatment. What worked for our family may not be right for yours.
If you’re in the middle of this, you belong here. Start with the free guides, use the symptom checklist if it helps you organize what you’re noticing, and know that recovery is possible even when it feels slow.
